This means that a significant proportion of heating or hot water production will have to come from clean energy sources such as the sun or external heat.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This means that an important new measure has been added: <\/span><b>the ban on oil-fired boilers<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> for new or rebuilt buildings. Oil and coal can no longer be used to heat these buildings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">This decision comes from an Order of the Walloon Government dated June 5, 2025, which modifies the PEB rules. Currently, the most efficient options are : <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vectura.be\/en\/?page_id=5555\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">installing solar panels<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> and the use of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/novitra.be\/pompes-chaleur\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">heat pumps<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> offered by Novitra.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Together, they can completely replace a fossil-fuel system and anticipate the ban on oil-fired boilers.<\/span><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What is the renewable energy requirement?<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The renewable requirement stipulates that a new building must produce part of its energy from renewable sources. The exact percentage depends on the total usable floor area (TUF): <\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for a <\/span><b>SUT of less than 1000 m\u00b2, the<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">the building must incorporate <\/span><b>at least 35% renewable energy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> ;<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\" aria-level=\"1\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">for a <\/span><b>SUT of 1000 m\u00b2 or more<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">it must reach <\/span><b>at least 15%.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">calculated according to the PEB method.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The idea is simple: the more a building generates its own energy, the more it complies with regulations. In this context, the installation of <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vectura.be\/en\/?page_id=5555\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">photovoltaic panels<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> panels is the best solution, as the solar electricity generated on site is fully recognized as renewable energy and contributes directly to meeting these thresholds.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>NB:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The <\/span><b>SUT (Total Useful Area)<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> corresponds to all the interior surfaces of the building that are actually usable, i.e. spaces where an activity can be carried out or which can be heated. It excludes, for example, unfinished cellars, non-accessible attics or very specific technical rooms.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_if_I_already_have_an_oil-fired_boiler\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">What if I already have an oil-fired boiler?<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">If your home already has an oil-fired boiler, you don&#8217;t need to shut it down. <\/span><b>to shut it down.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. The 2026 ban applies only to <\/span><b>new installations<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in new or rebuilt buildings. This means that existing boilers can continue to operate, as long as they are maintained and in good condition.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">On the other hand, we strongly advise against investing in a new oil-fired boiler, as its installation will be prohibited for all projects for which a permit application is submitted after <\/span><b>December 31, 2025<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Homeowners wishing to anticipate future restrictions are therefore well advised to turn to renewable solutions such as <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/vectura.be\/en\/?page_id=5555\"><b>solar panels<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> or <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/novitra.be\/pompes-chaleur\/\"><b>heat pumps<\/b><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Case_study\"><\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Case study<\/span><span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Small building &lt; 1000 m\u00b2<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">A retail outlet <\/span><b>300 m\u00b2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> must comply with the <\/span><b>35% renewable energy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">. To comply with this requirement, it decided to install a series of <\/span><b>photovoltaic panels<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> panels on the roof, capable of producing a large proportion of the electricity used for lighting, ventilation and everyday appliances.<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><br \/>\n<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">To complete the production and reach the required percentage more easily, the owner adds a <\/span><b>small solar thermal system<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> to heat domestic hot water. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Result <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: the building complies with regulations, reduces its energy costs and improves its overall performance without major work.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/vectura.be\/en\/contact\/#form\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Ask for a quote<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<h3><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Large building \u2265 1000 m\u00b2<\/span><\/h3>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An industrial hall of <\/span><b>1500 m\u00b2<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> is required to integrate at least <\/span><b>15% renewable energy<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> in its operations.
